Do you need a statutory audit?
Whether you need a statutory audit depends on range of factors, such as your articles of association, your company size and the industry you work in.
You need an audit if:
-
Your articles of association require one
-
Shareholders with 10%+ of shares request one in writing, sent to your registered office at least one month before year end
For financial years starting on or after 6 April 2025, you need an audit if you meet two of these:
- Turnover above £15m
- Assets above £7.5m
- 50+ employees
Legislation also demands that limited companies of certain types – or in certain sectors – must be audited. The following need a statutory audit, regardless of company size:
-
Public companies
-
Subsidiary companies
-
Authorised insurance companies / those carrying out insurance market activity
-
Firms involved in banking or issuing electronic money
-
Firms involved in banking or issuing electronic money
-
Undertakings for Collective Investment in Transferable Securities (UCITS) management companies
-
Corporate bodies whose shares have been traded on a regulated market
