David Howard is proud to support Book-keeping Manager, Sandra Steele, as she prepares to take on the London Marathon on Sunday 27th April 2025. Sandra is running in aid of Crohn’s & Colitis UK, a charity that holds personal significance due to her own journey with Ulcerative Colitis (UC).

"I’ve always believed that achieving something like running a marathon will be a life-changing accomplishment," Sandra says. "It will remind me that I am capable of doing anything I put my mind to!"

Why Sandra Chose Crohn’s and Colitis UK

Sandra has lived with UC since 2013. After enduring a lengthy and uncertain diagnostic process, her eventual diagnosis brought both clarity and concern.

“It was such a relief to finally have a diagnosis and begin treatment,” said Sandra. “But once that initial feeling wore off, I realised I didn’t understand what UC really was or how it would affect my life.”

Seeking answers, Sandra turned to the internet—but found the information alarming and overwhelming. That was until she came across Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

“I stumbled across Crohn’s & Colitis UK and finally found a reliable source of information. It was incredibly reassuring to read stories from others and to realise I wasn’t alone,” she shared.

With over 500,000 people in the UK living with Crohn’s or Colitis—possibly even more—Sandra is passionate about raising awareness of these conditions. Many suffer in silence due to the stigma surrounding them, and Crohn’s & Colitis UK aims to change that through research, support, and education.

Supporting Crohn’s and Colitis UK through her marathon run feels especially meaningful to Sandra. "It’s an honour to give back to a charity that has been such an essential tool in my journey to recovery. I hope that my efforts can help raise awareness and make a difference for others living with these conditions," she says.
